Last week we received the sad news that we had lost a very valued and respected colleague, Professor Jacqui Briggs, the Head of the School of Social and Political Science. Our deepest condolences go out to Jacqui’s family, friends, colleagues and students from everyone at the College of Social Science. A passionate and engaging leader, it’s a devastating loss and she will be greatly missed.
Below is a statement from Vice Chancellor Mary Stuart:

“As some of you will be aware, the University received the sad news that our much-valued colleague, Professor Jacqui Briggs, had passed away earlier this week after a short illness.
Jacqui was the Head of the School of Social and Political Sciences and a highly respected academic. She played a leading role in political studies teaching and research nationally and internationally. I am personally grateful for her contribution to the success of the University during her many years here and for her friendship. Those who knew her best will remember her as a generous, warm, kind person and she will be greatly missed by us all.
Staff and students in the College of Social Science have been informed and are being offered support through HR and Student Wellbeing teams.
Our thoughts and condolences go to Jacqui’s family, friends and loved ones. The College is planning an event for next term to remember Jacqui and to mark her contribution to the University and all will be welcome.
Professor Mary Stuart
Vice Chancellor

We will repost any announcements regarding the event next term on our social media and this blog.
