Lincoln Parkrun – University of Lincoln Student Takeover

Reading time

First of all I would just like to say thank you to everyone at parkrun for welcoming all of us students into your family, we have thoroughly enjoyed the past few weeks and love everything the parkrun has to offer. There is no better way to start your Saturday morning than exercising with such kind, caring, and enthusiastic people.

What a morning! The 360th parkrun event was today taken over by the students from the University Of Lincoln who aimed to bring together our communities.

We were blessed to have the sun glistening down on us for what turned out to be a very successful event and a fantastic day! The occasion saw a massive variety of runners and volunteers ranging from pregnant women to children to dogs and unfortunately for the photos some of us odd-looking students! The event ended in a swift 51 minutes which was one of the faster parkrun events that has taken place. 299 parkrunners attended the event and hopefully all enjoyed it as much as we did!

Personally, I would like to say a huge thank you to Jim, Andy, and Mark for allowing Michelle to invite us down to takeover this event, and also to Thomas who helped guide us through the process and making sure we were on the right track! Finally, as I mentioned before thank you soo much everyone for making us feel so at home it was a huge privilege and honour to be a part of such an amazing family!

Note from Jim, today’s RD:

It’s been fantastic working with the students who so brilliantly took over today’s event. They first approached us two years ago but their event would be the first week in lockdown, so never happened.

A new cohort of students have come this time, have been running and trying out volunteer roles at multiple parkrun locations for nearly 3 months, and did themselves proud. As good as it will be that many of them intend to continue running or volunteering, I’m quite happy that if these young people represent “the youth of today” then actually, we’ve got a hard working, eager and professional group of people soon ready to hit the world!

Great job folks!

If you ever would like to help out and be one of our valuable hi-viz heroes then just email with your ID number and preferred role and we will add you in – it doesn’t happen without you guys – thank you.

Please enjoy some of the photos taken on the day and hopefully see you all soon!
